"The results of this study interesting. Although no cure atrial fibrillation, but it seems to help reduce the risks that exist," said Dr. Raul Mitrani, clinical director of cardiac rhythm at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, as quoted from HealthDay, Monday (4 / 4 / 2011).
In previous studies have found benefits of yoga for the heart such as lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and make arteries more elastic. But this study is the first to see the effect on the condition of atrial fibrillation.
In this study 49 patients aged 25-70 years who have atrial fibrillation do yoga program for 45 minutes performed 3 times a week for 3 months. Sessions are provided in the form of yoga breathing exercises, various yoga positions, meditation and relaxation. Participants who do yoga on average experienced 2.1 episodes of atrial fibrillation than the previous average of 3.8 episodes.
"His heart rate is automatically determined by physiological needs. We know that meditation and yoga can help make people more calm, thereby reducing fear and anxiety," said Dr. Scott Shurmur as the director of preventive cardiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
When a person feels anxious or fear will cause the explosion of adrenaline that makes a person vulnerable and triggers an irregular heartbeat caused by decreased activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
