Tablet 'eat' PC Sales


The progress of the tablet PC product does not always seem to have a positive impact, especially for the sale of Personal Computer (PC). In the first quarter 2011, reported PC shipments declined.

As quoted from PCWorld, Friday (4/15/2011), according to analyst group IDC, the number of PCs shipped in the first quarter of 2011 decreased by 3.2 percent, when compared with the same period last year.

Analysts from Gartner also stated the same opinion, but its reduction rate is only about 1.1 percent.

"With the launch of the iPad February 2 last, more customers are turning to buy an alternative device, instead of buying a PC. We investigated the trend like this will have long term effects on the PC market," said Principal Analyst at Gartner, Mikako Kitagawa.

The presence of tablet PC with advanced technologies that are alleged as the cause of declining demand for computers. Society tends to think, at a price that is almost worth it, the tablet PC more useful because it is mobile and easy to carry anywhere.
