5.2 SR earth quake Shake Philippines


An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shake central Philippines this morning, exactly three kilometers north of the city of Masbate, Masbate island. At least five people were reportedly injured by a falling heavy objects.

"There has been no precise reports on the total damage caused by the earthquake. So far, electricity and communications in Masbate is also not disturbed," said Socrates Tuason, mayor of Masbate with a population of 90 thousand people, reported by Al-Jazeera, Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

Shock can be felt in other provinces adjacent to Masbate. When the aftershocks occurred less than an hour later, more and more people running out of homes, offices, hospitals, and schools.

The earthquake resulted in large cracks in houses and several buildings and breaking windows. Disaster management agencies and first aid teams were deployed to comb the city to inspect the condition of the building, where they found an old three-storey building collapsed because they shock.

Schools closed in Masbate, and Tuason held an emergency meeting to anticipate the impact of post-earthquake.

Philippines which is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire area, making this island nation prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In 1990, an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale killed nearly 2,000 people in the region of northern Luzon.
